范文:
No matter in the past or at present, it is undeniable that we need friends. A large proportion of people hold a viewpoint that when making friends, we should give priority to people who are intelligent and knowledgeable. They regard such friends as benevolent people to their life. However, in my view, this is not a wise decision. As a matter of fact, in a world with so much pressure, people get more happiness from a humorous friend.
First, this changing society leads people to less satisfaction and deprivation of sense of happiness. A friend with a good sense of humor will serve as a source of relaxation and happiness. For example, when a student feels stressed out in preparation for a really important math exam, an intelligent friend may not help because the student himself is also good at mathematics. What he needs is not some guidance for mathematical problems but a good way to get relaxation. In this case, his humorous friend may offer great help by telling him a hilarious joke about some popular stars or singing a funny song to cheer him up. The same is true for people who have heavy workload to deal with every day. After a long day’s work, humor is a good vehicle for having a pleasant evening with friends. As we can see from above explanation, having a humorous friend is very important.
Second, intelligent friends may talk volubly with indiscreet remarks and criticisms, and even feel superior to their friends. This will mostly make their less intelligent friends uncomfortable and feel unconfident about themselves. To be specific, they may know more about physics and physiology, or understand better about what the teachers lecture in class. Although this will sometimes drive people to work harder to keep up with their intelligent friends, such superiority is often a barrier for their personal development. Take my own experience as an example. When I was a freshman in university, Microsoft Office was a compulsory course. As a person who never used computer before, I was very slow in learning how to do PPT. But my intelligent friend always finished the task within only 10 minutes and spend the rest of 35 minutes keeping telling me that what I did was wrong and told me how to do with, actually, good intentions. As a matter of fact, I did not need her instruction, or preaching, because our teacher explained clearly about the steps. This is not a rare case because most intelligent people will harm others’ feelings when they show off how intelligent they are, even though they don’t mean that.
But I am not saying intelligent friends are evil. They are respectable and may also bring some benefits to us. For example, we can always learn from them if we treat such friends with positive attitude. But as friends, they actually will not be glad to guide you all the time. Anyway, they don’t have the obligation to help you to be a better person. So, what you expect from an intelligent friend will most likely fall through. On the contrary, a friend with good sense of humor feels happy when you happily get along with him. In this case, both parties get satisfaction from this relationship. Besides, a person who only shows his sense of humor in appropriate situations can be regarded as intelligent.
To draw a conclusion, it is stupid to depreciate intelligent people for they indeed set good examples for their less diligent friends. But considering the particular nature of friendship, making friends with humorous people is definitely the better choice than with intelligent one. And when you have confusion about life or some certain problems, you’d better turn to your intelligent teachers or consult your elders.(627 words)
