Engage: Project-Based Learning

Students go beyond the textbook to study complex topics based on real-world issues, such as the water quality in their communities or the history of their town, analyzing information from multiple sources, including the Internet and interviews with experts. Project-based class work is more demanding than traditional book-based instruction, where students may just memorize facts from a single source. Instead, students utilize original documents and data, mastering principles covered in traditional courses but learning them in more meaningful ways. Projects can last weeks; multiple projects can cover entire courses. Student work is presented to audiencesbeyond the teacher, including parents and community groups.

Reality Check: At the Clear View Charter School, in Chula Vista, California, fourth- and fifth-grade students collected insect specimens, studied themunder an electron microscope via a fiber-optic link to a nearby university, used Internet resources for their reports, and discussed their findings with university entomologists.

范文：

In the recent decades, a growing number of people have come to realize that the future prosperity of a country to a great extent lies in the current education condition. As a result, how to improve the quality of the education tends to be one of the most urgent questions left to government. From my perspective, making the teachers’ salaries higher is a good way to improving the quality of education, but not the best one.

Firstly, there is no doubt a greatly substantial increase in salary benefiting to teachers. It is common for an officer to devote herself or himself to the work which results from her or his salary increasing a lot. So is a teacher. They would be more likely to spend much time in studying the method of education. It is well known to them that, For instance, which methods would be better for students understanding the class? What measure should be taken to increase the students’ score?

Secondly, more people would take teacher’s job as their career, the competition of which could persist to improve the quality of education. Well-paid salary would attract a lot of people taking into the queue of teachers. As the number of teacher increases, competition among teachers will exist nowadays. Without being jobless, they have to use new-found method of teaching students lessons, and try harder to help students make much progress on their lessons. In this way, the quality of education would be improving on the way.

However, an increase in the teachers’ salaries could show some disadvantages and there are other methods of improving the quality of education. For the growth of teachers’ salaries, the education department would pay a large number of money, which would be burdened with a lot tuition from students. Besides training the ability of teaching for teachers, paying more attention to education for children before their primary school, and setting up more schools and university also play an important role in education. So increasing teachers’ salaries is not the best way.

All in all, the idiom “knowledge is power” shows us education is important for each country. To improve the quality of education, increasing salaries is not the absolutely best idea but a good one.
