Do you agree or disagree that parents should make suggestion to the teacher if parents find the teaching method is not right?
In the face of current fierce social competition, young students have to receive well-rounded education in order to survive in the career jungle. Teachers are where parents’ attention focus in that the way they teach decides the main quality of school education. Therefore, it is understandable when some parents tend to suggest proper teaching method to teachers. But it is indeed a doing as foolish as it sounds. Firstly, parents are far from professional to judge whether the teaching method is proper or not. The reason is simply. When in hospital, if a doctor’s treatment cannot ease the patient’s pain, the patient will hardly suggest certain cure to the doctor, because after years of training, the doctor is more aware of proper medical care. So it is the case with teacher. The only reason parents send children to school is that teachers are the experts at educating students and parents have confidence in their educating methods. Even if some approaches are controversial, teachers must carry them out for certain reasons. Therefore, parents should trust teachers for their proficiency and never push. Moreover, teachers have to take care of the whole class and they choose the teaching method suitable for the majority of students. It is too exact to assert that there is no single educating method suitable for all the students, but most education cannot fit all. That is why the society keeps discussing whether it is necessary for students to learn all primitive courses, or whether the most important class is learnt in or outside class. Therefore, since one teacher should have to consider all the students, the learning method the teacher adopts can only be those suitable for the majority, and probably it contracts some students’ learning habit. Take my little brother for example. He can rarely remember teacher’s words in class, but he takes notes carefully and recite them after class. One day, a new teacher came. She insisted students understand all the contents in class, and encouraged them to listen rather than take notes. My brother thus felt uncomfortable with the new method. But apparently, the teacher was right about the method and my uncle should not find her for suggestion. Besides, teachers need to be respected rather than suggested. Some teachers, especially those first-year teachers, lack confidence to stick to the right. No matter how excellent the teacher is in teaching, when a parent comes and doubts the acquired teaching method, the teacher tends to question his or her teaching method, and hesitates in making proper teaching decisions. This apparently hurts not only the teacher, but the students as well, and of course, the parent who first doubted the teacher also suffers. Considering this, parents should leave teachers open to teaching methods, similar to the situation on a plane when passengers leave the captain free to make any flight plan. In a word, even if parents pay extraordinary attention to school education, they should be careful not to interfere teachers’ work. As I’ve stated above, this is for the sake of all.
