Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The best way to increase students' interest in a subject is to teach them the significance of the subject outside of school.

答案

Students nowadays are under overwhelming study pressure from the increasing number of competitors resulting from the rapid growth of population, and the majority of parents and students cast considerable emphases on school education. Despite various responses people may have concentrate on the best way to increase students’ interest, I, given the chance, agree with the viewpoint that teacher’s instructions and school resources are more important for arousing students’ interests. To begin with, although teaching students the practical values of a certain subject may motivate them to learn it, it is more effective for teachers to provide students interesting experience of a subject. Teaching methods are of great importance since efficient methods, such as playing games, will lead students to experience the pleasure of subjects so that they will find the interesting points of a discipline. Especially for some unpractical subjects like arts and philosophy, it is unrealistic to teach students the significance of these subjects out of school. Only by the proper instructions from teachers can students become interested in these subjects. Moreover, teachers themselves will have great influence on students’ interest. A teacher with charisma can easily attract students’ attention to a certain course. For example, when I was in high school, I had no interest on history because my history teacher was boring and dull. But after I attended a lecture of a renowned history professor, I felt history was quite interesting. The professor was humorous and he told us some funny anecdotes of some historical figures with his charming voice. After that, I started to read history books and now I have acquired wide knowledge of history. Lastly, the abundant resources provided by school are also of great significance for students to develop their interests. If students were given more access to a variety of resources, they would be able to find the most proper way to learn more about a subject. For example, the school can invite some world-famous experts to make a speech, and if students have the opportunities to talk with experts, they may be easily inspired and motivated by these celebrities. In summary, teaching students about a subject's extracurricular significance is important, but for some subjects, there are better ways of stoking their interest.
