Reading：学术界对the Ninth Legion的消失有不少假设，较可信的是三种： 1消失在Scotland, 当时苏格兰有rebellion, the Ninth Legion被派去镇压，结果在战役中被wiped out. 2消失在Netherlands。因考古学家在Netherlands发现了一种特殊的roof tile，能推测是soldiers给修理的。 3消失在Judea，Roman governor派the Ninth Legion去Judea征战，他们在路上或在battle中被wiped out Listening：教授说，这三个theory都不靠现在第九军团的消失还是个谜。 1如第九军团是在如今的Scotland平定叛乱的战役中消失的，那得是场huge battle. The battle wiped out other legions, but not the Ninth Legion, 如真在Scotland 被灭了，那么战场遗址一定能找到属于the Ninth Legion的broken weapons and equipment remains,但事实是no weapons or equipment remains are found. 2 Netherlands的roof tile推测不靠谱，做这种roof tile要kiln (小黑板词汇），一种极热的工具，但荷兰找不到kiln的remains,所以在那边建造或是修理roof tile证据不足。教授又说，其实这种roof tile在别的地方也能做，比如Brftain就可以。那就可能在Britain做好了tile后运到荷兰。既然是运，那什么人都能运，不一定是soldiers. 3消失在Judea也不合理，因为把第九军团派到Judea去not efficient.地理上，the Ninth Legion处于大陆的west edge,而Judea在east edge,两者之间有其他的legion，要派也是派其他legion去。
None of the three hypotheses in the reading can explain the disappearance of the Ninth Legion. Firstly, from the perspective of suppression in Scotland, the professor states his doubt, because according to the lecture, if the Ninth Legion had indeed been wiped out in Scotland, there must be broken weapons and equipment remains belong to the Ninth Legion, while this is not true. Moreover, judging from the remains of roof tiles, the professor holds a different view, as the lecture further illustrates that a kiln is required in the making of roof tiles and there are no remains of such kilns found in Holland. Besides, other places, such as Brftain, could manage the manufacturing of these tiles and the tiles could have been transported to Holland, while the transporters could be anyone rather than soldiers. Last but not least, on the point of the battle in Judea, the professor never fails to express his concern, because geographically, the Ninth Legion rested in the west edge, far from the east edge where Judea was located, and there were other legions which were nearer and could be sent for the battle.
