When people are looking for a job, they usually would ask themselves, “What kind of job would be a decent one?” As always, nothing is perfect including a job and sometimes people have to choose between salary and other allowance like vacations. If I had to choose between these two criteria, I would choose the latter one with no doubts. Admittedly, money is important since every human being needs money to support their life. Someone is expected to raise their kids, funding their parents and the like, all of which would be impossible without money. However, to me, it is not the only criteria of a job. I would benefit more from enjoying vacations, by taking varieties of activities, like joining clubs, having long-distance travel and the like. For example, during last summer vacation, I volunteered to teach English for a primary school located in rural area, where most of the kids seldom have touched with English at all. During that vacation, I experienced what I had never imagined before, from being excited to be respected by those kids to feel sad about being separated with them. All these kind of memory and experience, which obviously cannot be attained through working, are indispensable for me in order to grow into a mature adult. In addition, keep working for months or even years with few vacations would definitely weaken my working efficiency, harming my sense of well-being. For instance, I used to work for a Japanese company as an administrative assistance. The salary offered was much higher than that of other private companies, while the number of vacations provided was comparatively less. Although at the beginning, I did feel a sense of satisfaction, I started to be anxious and exhausted after two-year’s working with only a one-week vacation. So, it is clearly that some disadvantages will be triggered if work with few vacations.
