Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: It's better for children to choose jobs that are similar to their parents' jobs.
Should the young cling to the security of the past, or bravely welcome the future? This is the challenge young people face today in a rapidly changing job market. Some parents expect their children to follow their footsteps. However, in my view, in order to have a thriving future, the young should discover their own life purpose, develop their various abilities, and embrace changes. It is not enough anymore for the youths to do the jobs their parents have done. First of all, to have a remarkable life, children should unearth their life purpose. Children may have interests and potential in other areas, and the expectation from their parents can be an obstacle for them to develop their talents. For example, my cousin is talented in designing clothes and she could have been a fashion design. But her parents are teachers and they thought that being a teacher could be stable. As a result, my cousin had to give up her favorite subject and went to a normal college. Now she lives a nine-to-five life and have already lost the passion for life. Secondly, in the competitive job market, the young should create their own value so that they would not be eliminated by the cruel competition. Thirty years ago in China, graduates did not worry whether they could earn a livelihood or not since they were assigned jobs by the government. But as the development of the social economy and the change of the policy, the government no longer provides the job opportunities for graduates and the job-hunting market becomes more competitive. Only those who acquire various skills can stand out among competitors. Following the path of parents can restrain children from developing a variety of abilities that they need in the modern society. Thirdly, being comfortable to changes is the key factor contributing to success. In this rapidly changing society, people’s ability of adapting the changes can be of great help for achieving the success. Take a famous person in China, Ma Yun, for example. He is the founder of the most popular on-line shopping website in China, Taobao. If he followed the footsteps of his father, who was a Chinese opera performer, he could not discover the huge potential of the on-line shopping market and become a billionaire. The ability to adapt to changes can be quite valuable for young people. In summary, children should have their own thoughts about their future, which can help them to find their value and develop their skills.
