Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teaching was a harder job in the past than it is today.
As contemporary students are more casual and individualistic in their behaviour, people are quite concerned about the relationship between teachers and students. As for me, the following reasons, simple but tremendously significant, justify my view that being a teacher is much harder than before. First and foremost, with the rapid boom of internet, students have much more choices in obtaining knowledge due to the free access to the abundant information online, which, to some extent, increases the difficulty of being a good teacher. In other words, it is because of the free internet information that students tend to compare what they get online with what teachers can teach them. However, in the past, teachers were the primary source for students to acquire knowledge and obtain information. So, it was not common for students to challenge what teachers told them. Moreover, the commercialization of education has to be blamed for the abatement in the respect from students for teachers. It is because the education nowadays is so commercially exaggerated that students now, in contrast to those in the past, are more inclined to regard teachers as some people who merely charge for their services. More personal charisma and teaching skills are needed in order to attract student’s attention and enhance their academic performance. Finally, higher requirement for being a teacher should take the responsibility. That is to say, only those who got bachelor degree can become an elementary school teacher, and a master degree for high school teachers. On the contrary, teachers only need to get teacher certification and a college degree in the past. In conclusion, to sum up, given the increasingly free acquisition of knowledge and the intensification of commercialization in education, teaching are no longer easy jobs.
