托福写作经典素材：衣食住行之“食”

在托福考试中，尤其是口语和写作部分，经常会考到如Do you prefer to eat prepared food or food made by yourself？这类讨论饮食的题目。或者例如Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live? 这类把食物与生活质量相联系的写作题。今天我们就来整理一下与“食”相关的谚语。 

与蔬菜有关的谚语

1. salad days （“青葱”岁月， 也就是年轻少不更事，没有阅历的一段时间。）

John was in his salad days then and fell in love easily.

约翰当时少不更事，轻易就坠入了情网。

2. beet red （窘得）满脸通红。

When she realized her mistake, she turned beet red.

她意识到自己出错时，满脸通红。

3. like two peas in a pod （一模一样）

The twins are like two peas in a pod.

那对双胞胎长得一模一样。

3. as cool as a cucumber （泰然自若）

Even in the emergency, she remained as cool as a cucumber.

即便遭遇突发事件，她也能保持沉着冷静。

4. hot potato （棘手的问题）

All of them avoid talking about the hot potato.

他们所有人都对这个棘手的问题避而不谈。

与“茶”有关的谚语

As useful as a chocolate teapot 中看不中用。

This course is as good as a chocolate teapot, so I want to quit next semester.

这门课毫无用处，下学期我想把它退掉。

A storm in a tea cup/a tempest in a teapot 小题大做。

The whole affair is just a tempest in a teapot. In a couple of months everyone will have forgotten about it.

整件事都不过是小题大做而已，过不了多久，人们就会彻底忘记这事的。

not my cup of tea 不是我喜欢的。

I realize a fantasy computer game is not everyone’s cup of tea, but this one is amazing. 我知道不是每个人都迷那些虚幻的电脑游戏，不过这个游戏真的很好玩。
