Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific solutions presented in reading passage.

The lecture apparently refutes the points illustrated in the passage. According to the passage, there are three practical methods mentioned by experts which can avoid the decline of Torreya. Conversely, the professor holds the perspective that none of those three ways can provide satisfactory solutions.

Firstly, the professor argues that the microclimate which is suitable for the survival of Torreya can be strongly influenced by the global climate changes such as global warming. In other words, the reestablishment of Torreya may not be successful. It directly challenges what the passage indicates, that is, reestablishing Torreya into the near place where the climate is specific for Torreya to thrive can be constructive.

The second point the professor uses to cast doubt on the passage is that the assisted migration has been proved by some examples such as the black locust that it will lead to some unpredictable or enven devastating results to the economy. However, the passage states that the further north where the conditions are ideal for Torreya to inhabit can be used to efficiently relocate the Torreya.

Another evidence the professor adopts to jeopardize the passage is that the trees perserved in the research centers may not be capable to resist illness in the future as the numer of Torreya which can be stored in the reasearch center is limited. While, the writer of the passage insists that the research centers which provide Torreya with closely monitored environment can ensure the continued survival of this specie.
