With remarkable progress of people’s living standard, watching movies seems to have been a dispensable part of people’s lives, as movies not only entertain the viewers but also enlighten them. Some people claim that only movies that can teach us something about real life are worth watching. However, I regard this assertion as unfair and arbitrary, for we often watch movies for more than one reason. First of all, movies are not always made to tell a theory, sometimes they are born for entertainment, like comics. It is because the only goal that the comedies try to achieve is to make people laugh and laughing is in fact proven by science to be one of best medicines to alleviate pressure, pain or depression. I still remember the time when I was preparing for the college entrance examination, the most enjoyable thing was to watch a Jim Carrey’s movie after a whole day’s hard work. Through those hilarious plots and exaggerating acting of Jim Carrey, my intense minds suddenly got relaxed. Secondly, some movies create a fantasy world we can never see in real life, which offers us opportunities to experience a different kind of life. A movie is the reflection of the director’s thoughts and ideas. With the support of modern technology, such as 3D and IMAX, the director is able to create his imaginary world and show it to the public, while others get the chance to experience this faraway world by watching the movie. This kind of movie, such as science fictions, is not about the real life, but about our dream world. Thirdly, movies like animations free us from the cruel world, which helps to protect our innocence. In most animations, the bad guys receive punishments at the end of the story while the nice people live a happy life forever, which is not always true in the real world. Life in the real world is much more complicated than in animations. We have to tackle with numerous problems, which makes us exhausted. By watching animations, we are able to escape from the complex world and find our lost innocence. In conclusion, it is absurd to believe that it is only worth watching movie that can teach us something about real life. You can never judge a movie before you have seen it, whether it is worth watching and whether it tells you anything about life, the answer should be observed and discovered ourselves.
