Do you agree or disagree with the statement that people can learn about a person from the books and movies the person likes?
Social network online has possibly provided people an access to know more about each other, daily life, school and work, as well as personality. However, as people are good at pretending, some people claim it is better to understand a person from the books and movies that person like, regarding to which, I disagree. First of all, some people regard books and movies entertainment, nothing related to personality. For example, when we were young, we like fantasy, but when we grow up, we turn to fiction and literature. Meanwhile, according to a famous Chinese idiom, one’s personality seldom change since young. Therefore, our taste to movies and books are little to do with personality. Moreover, some people tend to find a lifestyle different from the live they are experiencing via books and movies. When we are fed up with the current life, people want to find something different to stimulate our life. For example, some are courageous enough to lead a nomadic life, in contrast to people who dare not step out of the door and choose to read and watch movies at home. However, we must be clear that it is to make a difference to the current life rather than hatred to what we have already got, and not a fever to what is manipulated in books and movies as well. Furthermore, to enjoy watching a movie or a book does not necessary mean the person agrees with the claims and performances there. For example, some people enjoy watching movies about wars. This does not mean they are in favour of war and violence. Similarly, those who like movies about wonderland are not surely full of imagination. Therefore, there should be a second thought concerning the connection between personality and the choice of movies and books. In conclusion, as people choose books and movies depending on a multiple of reasons, it is not rational enough to judge one’s personality simply based on the choice of movies and books.
