Do you agree or disagree: People living in small villages are more satisfied with their life than those who live in cities.
Regardless of the advancement in social development, gap between the rich and the poor as well as the villages and the cities has remained a social problem to solve. Before there are any progressive changes being implemented, the public are wondering which area is better for living, the villages where life is simply and easy, or the cities with more uncertainties. As far as I’m concerned, cities may be a better place to live, at least for the young.
Firstly, there are less chances and opportunities in small villages, particularly for the young. With a population of less than one million, a typical size of village in China, there are merely several types of jobs considered satisfactory for the students who have attended university, government officers, doctors, teachers, and bank staff. To a country whose service industry has well developed, the choice of career in these small villages are pretty limited. In sharp contrast, the third industry, such as consulting and logistics, has led the most pleasant career choice for the young, which is a more understandable trend connecting to the international.
Moreover, there are more choices in large cities, due to fierce competition. Back in small villages where the third industry is less developed, most service industries have experienced monopoly, when one or several companies lead one specific field, such as communication and big shopping mall. Less completion undoubtedly leads to weak negotiation in pricing, and customers therefore suffer. However, in metropolis where not only the domestic but the international competitors want a market share so that product prices are more reasonable.
Besides, there are more places of interest in cities, which provides more ways of entertaining. Cities, with more government budget, tend to construct more public facilities in order to make the living surroundings more pleasant. Therefore, besides those big shopping malls funded by companies, there are parks, city squares, museums and art galleries where the public can have a wonderful time off work.
To conclude, in terms of job opportunities, service choices and entertainment, residents in cities tend to have a more material satisfied life than those in small villages.
